On Wednesday, the Renton School Board approved a timeline for the potential return to in-person learning. This timeline aligns with the new Department of Health Guidance guidance released on December 16. The Board-approved plan prioritizes students in Preschool through 5th grade and those most in need of in-person support. While this timeline sets potential start dates, we will continue to monitor health metrics and partner with Public Health – Seattle and King County. As we have seen throughout the pandemic, we need to remain flexible and should expect change.
The RSD Return to In-Person Learning Plan outlines rigorous protocols to meet health and safety guidelines for staff and students. Our next step is to provide families of preschool and elementary school students with opportunities to make a commitment to either return to school for hybrid in-person learning or remain with in-home learning (fully remote) for the remainder of the school year. Elementary families will receive an additional email today with detailed information on schedules and expectations for in-person learning.

We are working to determine how to provide in-person learning for our secondary students who are the most in need of support. Additionally, we are investigating different models for safely returning larger groups of middle and high school students. Information on athletic seasons and start dates will be coming soon.

We really wish we could answer this ourselves! Like our families, teachers, and staff we wish we knew what to expect and how to plan for it. While we are currently unable to plan activities that bring our Sierra Heights community together, we are here to answer questions and provide guidance if you need assistance navigating the school or district. As rules change and things begin to open up, we’ll adapt in accordance with those changes. We hope to see you soon!
Join the Sierra Heights PTSA and show support for our school while having access to discounts offered to Washington State PTA members. Get discounts on rental cars, office / school supplies, the Washington State Fair, and Great Wolf Lodge as well as others. Watch for a membership form coming home with your child or download one from our documents page. Don't want to send cash or checks to school? Pay online with your credit card.
The majority of the PTSA dues we collect are passed on to the state to pay for our local council, state, and national PTA organizations. These organizations not only get discounts for our members, their staff helps our changing PTSA body remember to do important things (like file taxes) and answer questions to help us ensure we maintain our charitable 501(c)(3) status with the government so your donations are tax deductible!
Participation in the PTSA allows us to do things like bring extra assemblies to school for our students and host events like Bingo Night
Our members provide opportunities for the PTSA to support our teachers and staff with new equipment / supplies for the classroom
Being active at your child's school not only shows them how important they and their education is, but gives you ample opportunity to make new friends with similar interests
Sierra Heights PTSA is a collaborative group of volunteers comprised of dedicated Parents, Teachers and Students to bring enrichment programs and events to our children through educational support and fun activities. Without our volunteers, none of what we do would be possible!
With your support, the PTSA organizes events and develops programs to supplement the efforts of our teachers and staff as well as provide support through volunteer hours, classroom or school supplies, and acting as liaison between our school and the families in our community.
We love our school and families. Whether you are returning to Sierra Heights or new to our community, already actively involved or trying to figure out what is going on at school, we want to hear from you! We are here to answer your questions and help you be involved in whatever capacity you desire.
